How DreamHost Deployed
Large-Scale Public Cloud on Top of OpenStack
OpenStack is a
great way to build public, private and hybrid clouds,
but deploying it at scale can be challenging.
January 21st, 10:00 am (PST)
Join Jonathan LaCour of
DreamHost, Mark McClain of Akanda and Nolan Leake of
Cumulus Networks to learn how DreamHost successfully
built and scaled their DreamCompute cloud to over 200
servers, designed to scale up from there.
Cumulus Networks provided cost-effective, automatable
and high performance physical networking. Akanda delivered advanced layer 3 services (RaaS, LBaaS & FWaaS) using OpenStack Astara for cloud orchestration and management. OpenStack provided cloud orchestration and management. These pieces came together to build a secure, fast and open networking solution for DreamCompute, DreamHost's public cloud infrastructure. DreamCompute is one of the world’s largest OpenStack cloud networks in production today.
Come and learn how:
To install and configure your
switches using the same tools used for your
Akanda provides advanced
layer 3-7 services to OpenStack VMs.
To use OpenStack Neutron to
configure VXLAN overlays for virtual layer 2
VP of Product
& Development at DreamHost
Jonathan LaCour is the Vice President of
Cloud and Development at DreamHost, a
leading web hosting and cloud services
provider. Prior to his career at DreamHost,
Jonathan was CTO at ShootQ, Inc., and the
Vice President of Software Products at
Pictage. Jonathan serves as a Director on
the board of the OpenStack Foundation, a
Fellow in the Python Software Foundation,
and is a frequent speaker at tech
conferences globally. He is also a
co-founder and Board member at Akanda,
Inc., the OpenStack network services
orchestration company behind the Astara
project. Jonathan resides in Los Angeles,
CA with his wife and two children.
Co-founder and CTO, Akanda
Mark McClain is the Chief Technical Officer
of Akanda Inc, a member of the OpenStack
Technical Committee and a core reviewer for
several teams (Neutron, Requirements and
Stable). Mark was the Program Technical
Lead for the OpenStack Networking during
the Havana and Icehouse cycles. In addition
to his technical work, Mark is co-organizer
of the Atlanta OpenStack Meetup group and
frequent speaker on OpenStack. Formerly of
DreamHost and Yahoo!, he has 14 years of
software development experience.
& CTO at Cumulus Networks
Nolan is the co-founder and CTO of Cumulus
Networks where he sets the technical
direction and oversees the product roadmap.
Prior to Cumulus Networks, he founded a
distributed storage start-up called Tile
Networks. His work there led him to realize
how unsuitable existing networking
equipment is for the data-center of the
future (which Cumulus Networks aims to
rectify). Prior to that, he had a research
role at Nuova Systems, and a technical
leadership role at cluster-virtualization
pioneer 3Leaf Systems. He did early work on
virtualization at VMware.
